30 ideas for a Christmas-inspired wedding

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful” Norman Vincent Peale

The Casablanca Manor team with suppliers, decided to celebrate the closing of the 2017 year with a fun “Christmas Sparkle” styled shoot. We wanted to show how beautiful and ‘sparkly’ a Christmas-inspired wedding could be.

Tarynn-Storm, a photographer well-known for her “glitter shoots” captured these fun filled moments of laughter, joy and Christmas cheer.

The mood board was inspired by Christmas, with copper tones and glitter.  The model, Alicia wore a beautiful wedding gown with delicately sewn glitter bodice, designed and made by Heloise Couture, and her make-up was done by Mia May. Santa’s little helper, Azalea (flower girl) made sure that there was enough copper glitter to go around, including all the behind-the-scenes helpers!

Décor was kept simple to show how one can go about keeping it affordable, as well as using DIY options. The handmade copper Christmas crackers can be used as gifts for guests as well as doubling up for conversation starters at the table.

Sweet Christmas memories are made of foods with fragrant spices such as vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves. Why not serve traditional Christmas eggnog for arrival drinks? The Chefs of Casablanca Manor put together a Christmas spread of treats, including Christmas-infused Malva Pudding adorned with gingerbread houses; copper dusted meringue Christmas trees, spiced pumpkin bread twirls, berry trifle (what is Christmas without trifle?), apple and berry pie, Oreo truffle and rice crispy trees, and a Pavlova filled with the richness of Christmas memories. Yum Yum!

La Moraine made a naked champagne wedding cake and elegantly iced Christmas biscuits as gifts. The little flower girl Azalea highly recommends them after tasting a few, but she manage to keep a few for Santa!

For bridal couples the team wanted to share the possibilities that the festive season ‘tis the season to get married! What a wonderful way to say “I do” with all friends and family together, with a kiss or two under the Mistletoe. But a reminder – what happens under the Mistletoe, stays under the Mistletoe!

Ideas for a Christmas-inspired wedding day:

  1. Let your flower girl partake in the fun of a wedding glitter shoot with you as a couple!
  2. Make your wedding day shimmer with a sparkling glitter couple shoot, on the day or as an engagement shoot.  Tarryn-Storme Photography will capture the magic.
  3. Christmas crackers as table and name placements. Put a gift inside with a table conversation starter. Guests will love pulling the crackers and this will create a fun wedding vibe.
  4. Christmas decorations are a plenty in November and December – incorporate into your day.
  5. A bedazzling wedding gown adorned with glitz and glamour, and red hot shoes and lipstick of course.
  6. Pine cones, often used in Christmas décor, can be included in table décor, and even in hand bouquets, adding a natural look or element.
  7. Silver Brunia Berries can be added for a touch of elegance to flowers and bouquets.
  8. Deep hues of reds using different flowers can be used for hand bouquets.
  9. Or try a rustic, yet glamorous look for hand bouquets with soft greenery and flowers.
  10. Christmas Holly can be added to the groom’s boutonniere. Ancient folklore says that it is a sacred plant that has magical powers of protection!
  11. Bridesmaids dresses with the colours of Christmas – red, green, silver, gold, copper, or a darker colour with pumping hot red shoes!
  12. Add Christmas sparkle to your invitations and put glittery confetti inside. PS. Get your save-the-dates out as soon as possible, so that guests can plan their holidays in advance.
  13. Thick garlands with flowing greenery and Christmas adornments or colours can be used around and inside your reception area.
  14. Have your ceremony later, and get the bridal party to enter with candles, as they walk to the front.
  15. You can serve traditional Eggnog as pre-dinner drinks.
  16. Make it “snow” as you walk into your reception venue!
  17. What about a big Christmas tree adorned with your wedding colours, and wedding favours wrapped as presents under the Christmas tree.
  18. Name placements can be put on the wrapped gifts to add to an extra fun element of finding your seat.
  19. Name placements can also be done using a Christmas ornament with a red ribbon, or a pine cone, or pine needle sprigs (if you want a more rustic look).
  20. Add Christmas cheer to tables with ornaments matching the colour of your wedding, and combine with other elements.
  21. Put wreaths of greenery on bare walls or as a backdrop for photos.
  22. Poinsettias are in season, so you can easily get them at stores, and add them to your décor or tables.
  23. Ask your DJ to play your favourite Christmas tunes for background music.
  24. Use Christmas themed photo booth items (such as reindeer horns, Santa Claus hats, etc)
  25. What is Christmas without gammon or turkey? Ask your caterer or venue if you can have this added onto your menu.
  26. What is Christmas without dessert? Make an elaborate display of treats – don’t forget the mince pies!
  27. Wedding cakes can be from glamorous gold, white with snowflakes, to naked cakes draped with berries.
  28. Gingerbread men for children is always a hit, or add them onto your dessert buffet.
  29. How about doing your couple shoot with Christmas décor and lights background. If you are lucky enough to be in an area where there is a Christmas light display – consider having some photos taken there.
  30. ….and most important of all….do not forget the GLITTER and FUN!
